T.L.L. Temple Foundation
A Website for a New Way of Working
A website for a 64-year-old private foundation's shift from a program-based to a place-based way of working.

The challenge
The T.L.L. Temple Foundation, a 64-year-old private foundation, shifted from a program-based way of working to a place-based one, focusing its efforts on specific subregions to better serve its communities. Its website, built on WordPress and Elementor, no longer described the foundation's work accurately, or conveyed the sophistication and professionalism behind it.
What we did
We rebuilt the site around the new strategy, for two primary audiences: peer funders and the communities the foundation serves.
- Restructured the entire site and navigation
- Added an operational plan page, with the full report as a downloadable PDF, to explain the foundation's evolution
- Reworked the history page to show then and now
- Added a Total Impact Approach page showing how the foundation is allocating more resources
- Built an interactive map of the service area and its subregions
- Updated messaging across the site
I edited the messaging, led the design, and reworked the navigation. Alex Lowe, our technical lead for websites and AI tools, led the build from start to finish: choosing the right tech stack, building an AI-forward site, and setting everything up so the foundation's team can use it on their own. That included setup, hosting, and SEO. Alex has a passion for helping organizations use technology to increase their impact.
How we worked
We built the site AI-forward, which let us iterate on design quickly: replacing whole pages, swapping wording and layouts, and refining navigation in minutes instead of days. The build was a two-week sprint, timed to the foundation's operational plan announcement so it could begin hiring for new roles and build momentum toward its new direction. It rested on about six months of content and design work that came before, so the sprint was about assembling and refining, not starting from scratch. We now support the site on a small monthly retainer.
What they said
Lane killed it.

Why it matters for place-based work
- The same shift many organizations are making: from program-based or countywide work to a place-based focus, and a site that explains why.
- An audience of peer funders who need to understand a new strategy quickly.
- An interactive map of each subregion, and a plan page with the full report to download.
