Barr Foundation
Developing Communication as a Leadership Skill
A two-day communication convening and executive coaching for the Barr Foundation's grantees across New England.

The challenge
The Barr Foundation (Boston, MA) sought a strategic communications partner to support its grantees, including traditional school districts, charter schools, and education nonprofits, in creating clear, compelling messaging about how they are transforming the high school experience across New England.
What I did
I designed and executed a custom communication convening, with:
- Whole-group sessions, small-group learning, and peer feedback
- 1:1 facilitation for 35 district and school administrators
- Curriculum and materials development
- Follow-up executive coaching, so everything participants learned was put into practice
Results
- 100% of participants agreed that working with me helped them understand that communication plays a key role in their organization's success.
- 86% of participants agreed that working with me helped them think critically about their organization's identity, gave them tools and language to communicate strategically, and helped them connect the dots between their organization's identity and the work they do.
Why it matters for place-based work
- Leaders from many organizations learning to communicate together.
- Coaching after the workshop, so the learning sticks.
